Cold Snap

Bad Things About Cold Weather
– It’s not hot
– I’ve always liked layering clothes but five is perhaps one too many for my liking
– Losing umbrellas on the tube – they disappear without trace to the mythical umbrella’s graveyard, I imagine it as a wasteland at the End of the Line, where carcasses mount up with rusting metal ribs gleaming through tattered fabric skins…
– Mornings
– Rugging up just to take the rubbish downstairs and de-rugging afterwards
– Being cautious as we walk around Whitechapel, with the increase in the flu season there is a corresponding increase in spit on the ground – one could slip and turn an ankle on the shining frozen phlegm-balls…

Good Things About Cold Weather
– It’s not hot
– My penchant for knitting scarves, hats etc is paying off
– Giving hand-knitted scarves for christmas no longer looks stupid!
– Exciting-looking fogs outside the window
– Tingly feelings as noses defrost after coming into a warm room from the cold outside
– Hot food at christmas finally makes sense!
– Steam rising from the heads of bald men – it’s hilarious!

It’s not my head she is laughing at…yet

  2. It could be mine, but I’ll be buggered if I’ll ever get on a plane again to travel so such a place that would allow my scone to visibly dehydrate.

Falls Creek is about the only place I’ll ever go that is that cold. And it’s local. Also I’ve discovered hats and beanies to fix that. The only steam I get is from my boots after a hard day on the slopes. But it has an odour about it that is not so amusing. But no knitted hats or beanies for me, and it will be a cold day in Hell (which sounds like it’s on your side of the world) before I ever wear one.

Apart from that, I really hope you are both having a good time. Please take some more photos and post them up for us all to see. Even of the local surrounds at this time of year will be great. Everyone misses you both!

Just don’t bother with photos of the frozen spit-balls though! That’s disgusting!
