For alot of my life I have read, watched and heard about Brands hatch, the motor racing circuit. Yesterday Not only did I get to go to an event, I actually found myself as a passenger for 6 laps. The car was a cosworth powered independant rear suspended Mk1 lotus cortina. Very similar in handling and braking to the escort however this one has over twice as much power. I was fortunate that the driver was getting more into ther groove over the day and as my ride was later in the afternoon he was well on it. Unfortunately, or fortunately, as it was a magazine ride day, there were alot of different small ford cars many road cars and there was alot of oil and fluid down so there were a few corners which were a little hairy but my Driver jeeves… oops I mean Lloyd was well within his element. Having won the supersports novice trophy on a ducati 1000 twin last year and numerous other four wheel trophies also recently. Needles to say he could drive. Actually Lloyd Wright he was named after the famous architect, how fitting I say. And all I needed to do for this was help pack the van, change a set of tyres, sit with the driver through the briefing and find some wire on the side of the M25 to hold the exhaust on as the exhaust rubber had perished and let go onthe way to the track… yes the car is road registered… never in Australia.
Generally the condition of the cars was much like in Australia however the standouts were alot better than I have experienced.
